Search the community and support articles Windows Windows 8. Hi, Using a Dell Vostro laptop, a couple of months old. I upgraded from Windows 8 to 8. With Windows 8 I had it set up to sleep when i closed the lid, and hibernate when I pressed the power button. It worked fine all the time and it woke up from both of these states very quickly. Since upgrading to Windows 8. When I turn the computer back on, it boots as if it has been shut down, rather than hibernated.
The same thing happens when the PC runs low on battery and tries to turn itself off. I'm not sure why, but sometimes, I think mostly when I've recently rebooted the computer, hibernating does work fine, but then later I will encounter the same problem.
It might also be worth mentioning that both shutting down and starting up the PC takes much longer since installing Windows 8. I have read some other posts about similar experiences and the first piece of advice seems to be to update drivers. All of my drivers are apparently up to date. Hopefully someone can help me with this issue. Thanks in advance, Will. This thread is locked.
